Kevin Nugara aka SpitFire
Speed rapper and Beat Box champion Kevin Nugara aka SpitFire is an Australian/Sri Lankan virtuosic beat boxer and rapid fire from Meadow Heights - Hume. Kevin has worked with the team at Outer Urban Projects since 2004 and has performed in numerous gigs, festivals and events. His career highlights include performing as the opening act for U.S hip hop and R&B artist, Kid Ink, co-starring in Curious Works documentary series, Meet & Eat, a series of shorts films made with people from contrasting backgrounds connecting their stories over food.
Kevin's won awards include, ‘Best Rapper’ in the Kool Skools Awards, the 2014 Hume Arts Award in theEmerging Performing Artist category and holds the title of National Beat Box Champion, in 2009.
In 2015, Kevin was commissioned by the Hume City Council to work on the White Ribbon Animation project with youth from Hume. His past workincludesthe 2006 Commonwealth Games as part of the Big Top Hopcultural program and touring with Indigenous Hip Hop Projects across regional and remote Australia.
Kevin’s most recent work with Outer Urban Projects’ include – Grand Divisions: A Moved Urban Cantata, at the Arts Centre Melbourne, as part of the 2015 Melbourne Festival, Poetic License, at the Footscray Community Arts Centre as part of the 2014 Melbourne Writers Festival, Darebin Arts & Entertainment Centre (2015) and in the 2017 season at Fortyfive Downstairs, Melbourne. Since 2015, Kevin has facilitated workshops in writing/ rapping/ beatboxing, as part of the Outer Urban Projects Zone 2 Tutorials program.
