Mahmoud Samoun aka Babz
Mamoud Samoun aka Babz is a Lebanese/Australian and found his feet, his words and his beat when he met the Outer Urban Projects' team in 2009 and took a lead role in Melbourne Fringe Festival show. Babz, keen to strengthen and expand his writing and develop his solo work has since chalked up dozens of gigs and performances with MASSIVE and Outer Urban Projects – including performing at the Inspiring Philanthropy event held at Zinc, Fed Square, White Ribbon Day events, and local community music festivals. He is a talented soulful, magnetic performer that moved and grooved audiences in Urban Chamber - Beyond in the Melbourne Festival (2013) at the Melbourne Recital Centre.
Babz recently performed in Outer Urban Projects’ – Poetic License in the Darebin Arts & Entertianment Centre in April 2015 and in the 2014 production at Melbourne Writers Festival at the Footscray Community Arts Centre.
“He (Kevin Nugara) was supported with beatbox sounds from the charming Mahmoud Samoun, aka Babz, who captured the audience with his twinkly-eyed smile and elegance. Babz performs his own profoundly moving monologue which describes his slow journey into intimacy and love, unashamedly outlining his insecurities and fears, backed with the music by the rest of the company.” - Arts Hub - Amelia Swan – wrote of Babz’ performance in Poetic License 2013
