Kate Gillick

Kate brings to OUP a combined 25 years of writing, research, dramaturgy, directing, performing and producing across theatre, film and TV in CCD and mainstream settings. She worked for many years with Melbourne Workers Theatre (MWT) as an actor (Dusting Our Knees, The Ballad Of Lois Ryan, Aftermath, Nidjera, No Fear, Road Movie) and then writer, (HardTimes, DeadLines) collaborating with writers such as Andrew Bovell, Patricia Cornelius, John Romeril and composer Irine Vela. Her play I Don’t Get Paid Enough to Find Dead Bodies co written with Laura Lattuada about homecare workers toured widely. Kate has acted in and written for TV drama and is an Australian Film, Television and Radio School graduate. Her ATOM award winning documentary, Remembering Country for SBS is a superbly detailed portrait of Harold Furber, stolen from his Arrente family in Central Australia and raised on Croker Island. Remembering Country was nominated for a Dendy Award, was in competition at Hot Docs Toronto and is distributed by Ronin Films.  Other documentary credits include SBS/CAAMA Minmaku Way (writer) and A Few Old Blokes (MIFF).

Kate was the Artistic Co Director and then Creative Producer – Programming with the Victorian Arabic Social Services (VASS) A.R.A.B (Anti Racism Action Band) from February 2004 - June 2012. During this time A.R.A.B produced over 40 projects and 400 gigs and one off events, engaging thousands of young people from the outer north and playing to a total audience of over 100,000.
